As a military spouse of 23 years, I am beyond grateful for our military and all the sacrifices its members and families make. Many businesses in Prattville along with my own (Jennifer Gracin Photography) are partnering with the Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce to celebrate Military Appreciation Week. If you haven't done your fall or holiday photos yet, now would be a great time to schedule a family photo session! Any retired, guard, or active duty military member who schedules a photoshoot during this week (Nov 5th - Nov 11th) will receive 50% of the session fee. The session fee is normally $295 and includes a pre-photoshoot consultation, 1-2 hour photo shoot at a location of your choice, in-person reveal/ordering session and a $200 print credit. Even with the 50% off you will still receive a credit for prints or products valued at $200. Thank you to all the military members out there and their families- especially a HUGE thank you to all the military children who I believe make the greatest sacrifice.
I had such a great time working with the Dwyer family. I just love working with fellow military families as I always find there is an immediate comfort with them. We decided to do the family photo shoot at Cooters Pond and Park in Prattville. I would have to say this is my very favorite place to take family photos in a nature setting. This family did really well with picking out their clothing for the shoot. I just love the color scheme going on in these images. The right clothing is so important when doing family photos as it can really change the whole look, feel and style of the images.
During this shoot their daughter wanted to hold on to her little stuffed raccoon the whole time. OF course the parents didn't necessarily want the raccoon in every picture. So, I put my kid skills to use and came up with some pretty clever ways to compromise with her. Lets just say that raccoon spent some time on top of my head! :) In the end everyone was happy and the pictures turned out just beautiful!!
Well today is school picture day for my youngest two! Even though I am a professional photographer, I still love getting their pictures done by the school photographer! No only do I love it, but I am grateful for it!! So today I am thankful for Lifetouch!! I know it seems crazy- why would I want to spend that money when I can just do it myself. Well, for me- it's just what you do - you get your school pictures made!! We didn't have a lot of money growing up but, my mom always made sure we got our school pictures made. It was a big deal for her and it was a time during my childhood that I felt special because I knew the pictures meant so much to my mom. Last night I pulled out my school pictures with my daughter and we compared each other year to year. We quickly realized- we don't look anything alike!! LOL!! But, just having those pictures and being able to share them with her and reminisce was priceless!! I just love that I get a printed pack of images ready to be hung up and that I know the photographer picked what he or she thought was the best one. I realize sometimes the pictures don't come out that great- but there is always picture retake day! :)
This whole idea of getting printed school pictures is partly what has led me to be a print photographer. I so want my clients to be able to sit with their grandchildren or other family members in years to come and remember the time they had a special photoshoot and have actual printed images in their hands or even just be able have the printed images to pass down to the next generation in their family. There is something about holding the pictures in your hands versus just seeing them on a digital screen. This generation of children is the most photographed generation of children ever- but sadly they may not see much of the images from their childhood- simply because people have stopped printing for the most part. Is your child going to be able to fire up your computer, access your hard drive, your iPhone or other electronic device and 30 years and view these precious images? I'm not so sure.
I do understand that not everybody is in the market for a print photographer and I also realize that families are not printing images as they once did- if this is the case for you, I strongly encourage you to at least try to get those school pictures made!!
What a gorgeous and sweet family I got to work with! I really loved meeting Gayle for our pre-photoshoot consultation out at her beautiful home in Wetumpka, AL. She was so kind and we found out both have a love for essential oils! We decided to have the family photoshoot at Gold Star Park in Wetumpka as this is their hometown. Gold Star Park is really such a beautiful place with lots of nice areas to work with- so I'm always happy when families want their session out there.
I really and truly enjoy the challenge of photographing little ones- by that I mean toddlers specifically! They are so darn stinking cute and let's be honest, a lot of the time they do not want to cooperate!! lol!! But, if you just let them be...the images can be truly amazing! There is nothing better than showing families their images and seeing the surprise on their face when they see that their little one didn't do so bad after all!
Business headshots can be in studio or on-location. Nathan's headshots where taken in downtown Prattville which always affords a nice setting! Companies may have many different criteria for professional headshots. Before you have your headshot session be sure to talk with your photographer about the companies expectations. Nathan works for Meryl Lynch and they requested a simple headshot that was not on a backdrop. Nathan was able to send me a pdf of exactly what they wanted; which I found extremely useful. If you are in need of business headshots please call (321)482-3015 to schedule your session.
